- 4 large whole onions (yellow, sweet, or red)
- 8 cups water
- 1 tablespoon salt
- Butter Cajun Sauce:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Black pepper, to taste
- Optional Add-Ins:
- Corn on the cob
- Baby potatoes
- Sausage or shrimp (optional)
Instructions
- Fill a large pot with water, add salt, and bring to a rolling boil.
- Add whole onions to the pot and boil for 20–30 minutes, until tender.
- While onions cook, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
- Stir in Cajun seasoning, lemon juice, and black pepper. Remove from heat.
- Drain onions and place them on a serving platter.
- Generously pour the butter Cajun sauce over the onions.
- Serve hot with optional corn, potatoes, or sausage.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, skip sausage and seafood. Adjust spice levels by adding more Cajun seasoning or chili flakes. Best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
